Lucid Dreaming Techniques Overview
Lucid dreaming techniques are easy to learn and make a part of your daily routine. Our goal here is to help anyone who is interested learn how to have lucid dreams as often as possible. The information and advice we offer here about lucid dream techniques is completely free, and our only motivation is that we want more people to tap into the power and wonder of lucidity. The section of pages here is designed for both the novice and the more advanced practitioner to learn how to attain dream control as often as possible.
Many people have spontaneous lucid dreaming stories to tell, and oftentimes it is these preliminary dreams that become the catalyst for wanting to actually have this lucidity more often. As we’ve said in many other places here, lucid dreaming techniques can help you grow as a person, find new excitement, and have adventures that are just not possible in your waking life.
This section will be updated often with the best lucid dreaming techniques for anyone looking to learn to have lucid dreams, whether you are concentrating on Dream-Induced techniques or Wake-Induced techniques. We will respond to the feedback we get from our readers and modify or add to the techniques we promote, and in general, we will ensure that we offer a variety of choices since the “fit” between any one person and specific lucid dreaming techniques can vary.
Lucid Dreaming Techniques Basics
There are some very basic things you should know about lucid dreaming techniques before you visit the rest of this section. First, you do need to differentiate between the two major types of lucid dreaming: Dream induced and wake-induced. As their names suggest, the first type is the type of dream control you achieve directly from the dream – you basically realize you are dreaming and then become aware and in control. The second type, as you can imagine, involves trying to maintain consciousness and control as you move from a waking state to a dream state. These two methods call for different lucid dreaming techniques, and while you can certainly pursue both at the same time, you will need to match your methods with the type you are pursuing at that time.
When choosing a lucid dream technique you also need to make sure you think about the best fit for you. We purposely hesitate on these pages from saying which one we think is “right” or “the best”. Instead, we will present all of the popular and tried and true methods in a way that should allow you not only to look for the one that is the best fit. This also will allow you to move to another one if you do not find success. Think about whether you are a visual person or a verbal person, and whether you can generally sustain attention or if you need something that can be done in short spurts.
Lucid Dream Techniques in a Nutshell
If we were to sum up lucid dreaming techniques in one paragraph, we would tell you that the key is to focus so much on lucid dreams during the day that your dreams at night have you considering whether you are dreaming, looking for dream signs, and generally thinking about the topic to the degree that you actually wake up within the dream. It’s not really much more complicated than that, but you can increase your chances by setting the stage and knowing exactly what to do to create that daytime focus.
A little more detail reveals that there are different lucid dreaming techniques depending on whether you want to have “wake-induced” or “dream-induced” experiences, named WILD and DILD respectively. For wake-induced you will use lucid dreaming techniques that take you directly from the waking state into a dream state, transitioning your awareness while you fall into the dream. For dream-induced lucid dreaming techniques, you need to learn to spontaneously notice you are dreaming while in the dream. Neither WILD or DILD lucid dreaming techniques is “easier”, but it’s more about the fit with your own abilities.
How Long Until Lucid Dreaming Techniques Work?
Learning lucid dreaming techniques is surprisingly easy and does not take a lot of time. It does take focus and effort, and likely motivation to stick with it because you may not achieve lucidity right away. So a common question that people ask is how long until lucid dreaming techniques produce lucid dreams. The answer to this question is not easy, but there are three things we do know:
1. Your ability to weave lucid dreaming techniques effectively and frequently into your waking life will likely have a direct correlation with your success. The more you bring awareness and thoughts of lucid dreaming into your days, the more that same awareness will slip into your dreams as well.
2. A relatively unrelated factor is your ability to remember your dreams. Even the best lucid dreaming techniques will have little effect if you are not remembering a good number of dreams each night. maybe you are having lucid dreams but just not remembering them! Make sure you have either first set out to remember your dreams or at least are working on that concurrently.
3. Knowing how long to stick with a certain lucid dreaming technique, and when to try something else is key, and it is not as simple as it may sound. You need to be sure you do not give up too easily on a certain technique because it does not work right away, but then again you may find that a different lucid dreaming technique will work better.
